Versions of Old
Long before there was AI or Covid, I was doing music collaborations with other musicians and vocalists, all done remotely.
I wrote the lyrics, these Musicians did instrumentals from one state, vocals from another, we put them all together and compiled finished tracks.
We made music remotely. We have never met in person. Yet they were able to bring life to my lyrics.
I am now re-working a lot of these songs. They were okay for the time they were written and I am truly grateful for those who helped me out with these. But I am not at the same place in my life now, and an upgrade is needed.
Some of these songs won recognition in songwriting competitions, some made it to radio and sadly some were a total waste of my time and money, $1000's of dollars wasted on unusable songs that 'real musicians' recorded and sent back to me. Some held my songs in their music libraries / catalogues that lay dormant for decades & held my music hostage - I was not allowed to use them even though they were 100% my lyrics. I could not sell them or offer them for sync licensing opportunities or make any money from my own songs. I have since re-done a lot of these songs and now own them free and clear
I have not received compensation for any of them or any royalties from them, live and learn
It's time to reclaim my music and my lyrics
I recently changed publishers and now own 100% of all of my music free and clear, the masters, the lyrics, the compositions and have music licenses for all of them
